Best Best Medium with a Message

Original songs by singer/songwriter Joyce Katzberg are the medium, as is her recently released live album, The Kat’z Meow . Featuring a band of Rhody’s best roots musicians (Peter Breen, Cathy Clasper-Torch, Phil Edmonds, Otis Read, Ron Schmitt), Katzberg on vocals and a live audience at Stone Soup, this CD is grabbing airplay as far away as California, Colorado, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. One of the seven Katzberg songs on it is called “Not Another Mother’s Son, Not Another Father’s Daughter” with illusions to Iraq and 9/11. Katzberg sang it live on NPR last summer to Cindy Sheehan at her Texas stakeout. “If I Were God” strikes a chord with listeners because of its harsh look at what humans are doing to each other and to the planet, though it ends on a forgiving note. The album also includes two songs by Malvina Reynolds, one by Edmonds, and the traditional “Everyone ’neath the Vine and Fig Tree.” Box 187, Warren, RI 02885 | 401.247.1434
