Best Best Cooperation Between Art and Commerce
Yes, corporations such as banks have been displaying art on their walls since the first gilded frame was invented. That’s all well and profitable for the occasional painter, but what about all the rest? A step in the right direction has been made with the BankRI Galleries , one each in the financial district and on the East Side of Providence and in the North Kingstown branch. For a month or more, paintings and pastels, photographs and prints are on display in an alcoves and on walls, attracting more viewers than at most gallery shows. An artist herself, Paula Martesian took over curating these exhibitions three years ago, providing a showcase for more than 40 artists over that time. The short bios she prepares to post at each show are an amusing read, too.
