And getting your eyes opened to other cultures and other genres in the process! The University of Rhode Island’s Great Performances series will celebrate its 25th anniversary in the 2006-’07 season. World-class artists come to campus each year, offering students, staff, and the general public a great venue to see performers outside Boston or New York. Last year’s lineup included a performance art troupe that combined chamber music and readings from Asian women poets (the Silken Phoenix); two chamber music groups (Les Violons du Roy and the St. Lawrence String Quartet); Andean musicians Inca Son; Middle Eastern dancers from the Mosaic Dance Theater; and an a cappella group called the Western Wind doing music from composers who survived the Holocaust.
