Best Best Band on the Rise
Longtime Cranston West music teacher Mr. Montanaro must be proud of his former Fan Club, as the kids now known as Monty are all grown up and doing the major label dance, with a freshly inked deal with Stolen Transmission Records (Island/Def Jam). The band is currently holed up in a Maryland studio wrapping up a projected July release. Last summer’s The Red Shift was a triumphant kick in the sack with some balls-out rock exuding the breathless exuberance of Steve Aiello and Ryan Muir accompanied by dynamic percussion and blistering guitars, somewhere between, say, NOFX and Fall Out Boy with testicles. They’ve recently played all over the East Coast, and will squeeze in a local show on Sunday, April 23 at URI (for only $5) and at North Kingstown High on May 12, undoubtedly debuting some new tunes. Monty’s debut is tentatively scheduled for July 18. In the meantime, pick up the merch (more than a dozen tees as well as The Red Shift and the 2002 self-titled EP) at montyrock.com .
