
Sad as it sounds, there was a time when you had to be Jewish to even have heard about the dense and chewy apotheosis of the doughnut. These days, the most devoted loyalists are found here. Much of the loyalty has to do with the interesting permutations provided: your bagel (poppy, blueberry, cinnamon-sugar, etc.) with a schmeer of cream cheese (chive, jalapeno, cinnamon-walnut-raisin, and so on).
