Shooting, looting, and doing the Humpty Dance: 10 games you’ll be addicted to this fall

The gaming industry brings out the big guns

Although top-shelf games are a year-round occurrence, publishers still wait until the fall to bring out their big guns — literally, in most cases. This year is no different. The release schedule is heavy on big-budget franchises and no-brainer sequels, but there are also some curveballs from some of the brightest minds in the industry. For once, fall games offer something for everybody.

GEARS OF WAR 3 | For Xbox 360 | September 20 | The season starts with a bang with the culminating chapter in the series that has defined the Xbox 360. By now, developer Epic Games has perfected the games' core duck-and-cover shooting mechanics. In the third part, gamers can look forward to new and improved multiplayer modes. They include a four-player cooperative campaign, a refinement of Gears of War 2's sublime Horde mode, and a new game type called Beast mode, in which players control the bad guys.
