Shaking through

Off the Couch
By PROVIDENCE PHOENIX MUSIC STAFF  |  February 24, 2010

A pair of free shows lead off on THURSDAY (the 25th), with FAR OFF PLACE visiting the Knickerbocker Cafe (401.596.4225) while must-hear East Bay trio GAMBLIN' HANDS (see "Yesterday's News") hit the Greenwich Hotel (401.884.4200). Endless hip-hop flowing out of Jerky's Bar (401.621.2244): iconic Boston rhymer MR. LIF headlines on FRIDAY (the 26th), with local rap vets LABELESS ILLTELLIGENCE and newcomers BROKEN GROUND; THE TITANS kick it off around 9ish, $18 at the door. FYI: tix are on sale for EPMD (!) at Jerky's in May. Hell yes. Call 401.621.2244 for all the details. Also on Friday, SEXCOFFEE and FOR THE LOVE OF SLOANE rock out at the Blackstone (401.726.2181); last chance to catch SexCoffee for awhile as lead singer Ruth Charbonneau will be taking maternity leave; the FULL-TIME DREAMERS and Swansea's GRAND ARMY open. Joe Fletcher's WRONG REASONS are busy cranking out a new LP and should be debuting new stuff downtown at the 201 with MOVERS AND SHAKERS and LAST GOOD TOOTH. And head back to the 201 on SATURDAY (the 27th) for THE DEVIL, MY POCKET with DARLINGSIDE and THE ROMAN NUMERAL THREE; call 401.454.4581 for info on both shows. Catch indie-punk locals at AS220 (401.831.9327) at a CD release show for the DOWN AND OUTS with guests SIX STAR GENERAL, THIS IS IT, and New Jersey's POST NO BILLS ($6 cover). No better way to wind down the weekend than a welcome return by THE 'MERICANS, playing a free show at Local 121 on SUNDAY (the 28th). Chris Daltry & Co. are mixing their new album in NYC, and the former Purple Ivy Shadows founder reports a Facebook page has been created and will eventually post all 80+ songs spanning their 11-year tenure. On MONDAY (the 1st), IMADETHISMISTAKE headline at AS220 with OUT OF THE BLUE and local expert punks THE JESSE MINUTE and TABERNACKLE, also just six bucks at the door.
