Spring is just around the corner, and balmy 40-degree temps call for super-charged surf rock from veterans THE FATHOMS, playing Nick-a-Nee's on THURSDAY (the 18th), 21+ and no cover, call 401.861.7290. Another worthwhile freebie goes down on FRIDAY (the 19th) at Mulhearn's Pub (401.438.9292) in East Provy, with local Neil Young-tribute band YOUNG RUST. Mike Gendron and crew boast more than 50 songs from the Young catalog; the show kicks off at 9 pm. Also on Friday, instrumetal heads HOLLOWS headline at AS220 (401.831.9327) with SO COW, THE BROWN BOOK, and locals BROADCASTER (members of Killing Pablo and Science for the People). A few blocks over, the BECKY CHACE BAND heat up the Speakeasy at Local 121 (401.274.2121), only $5 at the door. The 201 (201 Westminster St.) hosts the return of THE INCLINED, with SUN LEE SUNBEAM and Pittsburgh's BIG HURRY (401.454.5481). Another busy weekend at the Blackstone: BEAT SURRENDER and FOREST HENDERSON join local alt-rockers STALEMATE and STILL TALKING on Friday, and on SATURDAY (the 20th), the DINO CLUB congregate in the Bucket, call 401.726.2181 for info on both shows. SICK ELECTRIC celebrate the release of Death by Electrocution at Club Hell (401.709.3923) on SUNDAY (the 21st), with RIGHTEOUS and South Coast punks JUDO HEIRS opening; 18+ and no cover. Am aural assault is in order when TINSEL TEETH release Pink Eye at Machine With Magnets on MONDAY (the 22nd), with BELLOWS and Brooklyn's EXTRA LIFE leading off; call 401.475.2655. A friend recently caught six-man R&B troupe FELIX BROWN tear it up at a wedding reception, and was so impressed he and his fiancee hired the Sharon, MA-based showmen for their wedding next year (congrats, Lauren and DJ Nasdax). The band will revisit the Newport Blues Cafe on TUESDAY (the 23rd), call 401.841.5510.
