The aforementioned Slaine show was my first time catching Freddie Black live and in person, and he did not disappoint. The GhosTown Inc. vet went the solo route 10 years ago and is currently working on his third album, pairing with B. Luv on Everybody Luv Black, due out by year’s end.

I’m also looking forward to the official debut platter from PVD trio Reziztanze (Classical High, stand up!); C-Smoothe, Contack, and Sir Lex released the third mixtape in their Coverfire series in late 2013 and should have Powered by LQ ready soon. Reziztanze, Swann Notty, and Medusah Black will open for Flizz (of Who Dem) on May 31 at Jimmy’s Saloon in Newport (free of charge!). Flizz just released a video for the new cut “Nobody,” and he is sounding matured and focused while passionately shooting off bars like, “I’m living what I say and what I’m speakin’ be the truth, like I live and die music so cremate me in the stu/Don’t bury me in the coffin, mummify me in this booth.”

I ran into my old buddy Storm Davis a few weeks back and threw the usual few jabs about his next album dropping sometime before 2022 (mote than eight years have passed since his acclaimed Kegstand Poetry for the Recovering Alcoholic). Well, Stormy hit me with the big, big news: he is aiming for a July (yes, 2014) release date for the brilliantly titled Only Built 4 Cuban Sandwiches, described as the “world’s first adult-contemporary hip-hop album,” with production from Luckee Luciano and Entity, and guest verses from Juan Deuce, Jon Hope, and Reason, among others. We’re hungry for Cuban Sandwiches, Storm Davis. Make it happen, for chrissake.

Storm is the longtime promo guy/label manager for Strange Famous Records (strangefamousrecords.com), which is gearing up for the new disc by label founder and acclaimed wordsmith Sage Francis . Copper Gone is his first studio release in four years; the highly anticipated follow-up to 2010’s masterful Li(f)e will drop on June 3. The hard-hitting “Vonnegut Busy” is out now, and Francis will debut the video for a song titled “Grace” soon. Bearded brethren B. Dolan will hit the road on a national tour through June (his spoof press conference addressed internet trolls and was picked up by Spin.com), culminating in a hometown throwdown at Fête on July 4.
