A wild week

Eight days of fun (and another holiday)
By PROVIDENCE PHOENIX MUSIC STAFF  |  January 11, 2012

On THURSDAY (the 12th), last call for ol-skool rap heads to reconvene at the Apartment for Throwback Thursdays starring DJ STERBYROCK and party host/lyricist META P; 21+ and no cover, call 401.228.7222 for details. Oh shit, it's FRIDAY (the 13th)! And what better way to celebrate than taking in Rob Cinami's latest hardcore venture, GUT BUCKET, debuting their new album, Shattering Your Faith, at PVD Social Club (call 401.454.7177). Other Friday PVD action includes an all-ages freebie with FALL & BOUNCE, LEE ADAMS & THE COSMIC FACTORY, and ANTHONY MATTERA at the Apartment; and Firehouse 13 (401.270.1801) hosts FILTHY STILL and must-hear locals REVEREND BASTIEN, along with VOODOO FIX and Fall Reev's resident folk-punk troupe, WOLF HONGOS, for just $5 at the door. On SATURDAY (the 14th), head down to Portsmouth for the 13th annual "open-mic tribute to the sea" known as the GATHERING OF FIDDLERS AND FISHERMEN at Common Fence Music starting at 6:30 pm ($15, 401.683.5085). Meanwhile, BOO CITY and TRIANGLE FOREST hit Local 121 (401.274.2121); DJS WAY O'MALLEY and ANTHONY FERREIRA host their monthly Isn't Nuthin' dance party at the Salon (now held the second Saturday of every month) — get down with Pickleback shots and "plenty of house and futuristic hood selections" (21+ and no cover all night, 401.865.6330). And don't forget WBRU's official 2012 ROCK HUNT kickoff party features insanely entertaining duo (and '11 champs) VULGARRITY, as well as LAST ONE OUT and THE WANDAS; call 401.729.1005 for more. On SUNDAY (the 15th), ROOMFUL OF BLUES heats up the Knickerbocker in Westerly, with proceeds benefiting the Charlestown Land Trust. The legendary blues crew will crank out plenty from their latest disc, Hook, Line, and Sinker; call 401.315.5070. Happy MLK Day on MONDAY (the 16th)! Ahead to TUESDAY (the 17th), Fête's General Assembly series (harvesting the best local live acts) presents another killer (and totally free!) lineup featuring WHITEY, OLNEYVILLE SOUND SYSTEM, LOLITA BLACK, and $2 'Gansett tallboys. Wow! Call 401.383.1112 for the full scoop. Speaking of Lolita Black, catch Bob Otis & Co. again on WEDNESDAY (the 18th) at Dusk (401.714.0444) for a metalhead triple-dip also featuring THRILLHOUSE and VILLAINER, all for just $3 (dude, that's like a buck per band). See you there for sure. And ahead to next THURSDAY (the 19th), stop by the Whiskey Republic and catch THE TOWER & THE FOOL with SMOKE SIGNALS opening; 21+ and no cover, dial 401.588.5158.
