So much to do

No excuses — get out there!
By PROVIDENCE PHOENIX MUSIC STAFF  |  December 7, 2011

On FRIDAY (the 9th), stop by the Armory in East Greenwich for a Toys for Tots bash led by TONY JONES & THE CRETIN 3, THE REVEREND BASTIEN, and more; the all-ages shindig includes a "junk food buffet" with the $10 door donation. Local 121 (401.274.2121) hosts a nice double-bill with ATLANTIC THRILLS and Boston's MOVERS AND SHAKERS, while rap/R&B maestro SYMMETRY headlines at AS220 (401.831.9327). Loud-Ass Show of the Weekend is at No Problemo in New Bedford, with a PVD invasion featuring BAYLIES BAND, TINSEL TEETH, and LOLITA BLACK (21+, free, 508.984.1081). Speaking of the loud rawk, THE DOLL EYES (75orLess Records) have a busy weekend ahead, with a gig at Firehouse 13 Friday (401.270.1801) and some East Bay action with GOOD TIME CHARLIE at the Common Pub in Bristol on SATURDAY (the 10th). And while you're there, skip over to Judge Roy Bean (401.253.7526) for COMA COMA; both shows are free and worth the trip. Also on Saturday (ad speaking of 75orLess), THE JESSE MINUTE join SHARKS COME CRUISIN' at Local 121, Latin/funk kings SANTA MAMBA headline at the Spot Underground (401.383.7133), and — if you haven't already — hit up the folks at Fête for MOS DEF ticket info because it will likely be sold out by showtime. Be sure to get back to Fête on SUNDAY (the 11th) for the SESSION AMERICANA YEAR IN REVIEW show with MARK CUTLER, RY CAVANAUGH, JOCIE ADAMS of the Low Anthem, and more; doors at 7 pm and tix are $10, call 401.3883.1112 for the full scoop on both shows. Also on Sunday, rap cats should check out Local 121's Taproom for the monthly Zodiac Shack party with rhyme duo DIRTYDURDIE; our Sagittarius-born friends receive a free drink. A few blocks over at Roots Café, join in on the Blues/Jazz Jam with SWEET P & THE WHO DAT BAND; free admission for participating musicians, call 401.272.7422. And next WEDNESDAY (the 14th) at AS220, it's BLACK COBRA, ZOROASTER, and THE BODY (!) for only $7(!).
