Fellow RISA artist Heather Rose offered her thoughts on that one: "I can picture Jacob at the front of a classroom making a bunch of kids bop along while learning about a controversial heresy trial."

Haller will continue to play out with Monti and friends as the Killdevils; the duo also perform with the Double Decker Dance Band. "One of the foundations of my musical career is if someone asks me to do something I will say 'yes' whenever I can," he said. "It's led to some unexpected musical projects along the way, but they've all been rewarding and fun."

I asked about the outpouring of financial support for the new album. "I am very grateful," he said, "and at this point I've delivered almost all of the rewards, from signed CDs to T-shirts to knitted dinosaurs, though I still need to bake some apple pies for a few people."
