THURSDAY (the 1st) marks the return of alt-goth locals HEMLOK, performing at Dusk (a great spot tucked behind Da Hill, 401.714.0444), while the Spot Underground hosts MUSIC FOR MAMMARIES, with Rhody rhymers REZIZTANZE, DIRTYDURDIE, and more along with DJ THERION on the decks all night; proceeds from the $10 cover benefit the Gloria Gemma Foundation and American Cancer Society, call 401.383.7133. On FRIDAY (the 2nd), acclaimed "Mexo-Americana" unit DAVID WAX MUSEUM perform at the snazzy-new Fête Lounge in Olneyville (401.383.1112), while NYers DOPAPOD and TURBINE hit the Ocean Mist in Matunuck (401.782.3740). SATURDAY (the 3rd) highlights include a good one at Firehouse 13 (401.270.1801) starring THE KEYS plus stellar locals VUDU SISTER, REVEREND BASTIEN, and THE DENVER BOOT; head up Route 6 into Seekonk for THE HONEY BROWN, THE JESSE MINUTE (75orLess Records), and THE FURIES rocking the American Legion Post; 18+ and $5 at the door, call 508.336.9822 for details. And one of our personal faves here over the past few years, TALLAHASSEE will play Local 121's Speakeasy (401.274.2121) with KELLY MCFARLING opening; doors at 8 pm with a well-spent $10 cover charge. On SUNDAY (the 4th) at AS220 it's THE EMPIRE REVUE, the monthly variety show (sketch comedy, burlesque, magic, music, etc.) with a full slate of musicians including THE SUPERCHIEF TRIO, HANNAH DEVINE, and special guests; call 401.831.9327. Hip-hop heads should visit Fête on Sunday and watch the aforementioned rap duo DirtyDurdie battle fellow local lyricists for a coveted opening slot for Mos Def, who plays there next week (advance tix are highly recommended for the Mighty Mr. Mos).

And a congratulatory shoutout to SIDEBAR BISTRO (401.421.7200), which was recently recognized as one of the top jazz venues in the whole wide world by DownBeat magazine.
