Lolita Black at AS220!

Hell yes! Plus, ’BRU turns 42 (!) at Lupo’s
By PROVIDENCE PHOENIX MUSIC STAFF  |  November 21, 2011

Last call for a Thanksgiving Eve bash on WEDNESDAY (the 23rd) at the Spot Underground, with SAUCE leading an eight-band lineup which also includes PLASTIC SUNSHINE, STARFORCE TRIO, ABLETHOUGHT, and more. It's 18+ and $8 at the door (and don't forget you can party 'til 2 am; call 401.383.7133). We're stoked for the green bean casserole and three-way parlay (Packers, Cowboys, and Ravens) for Turkey Day on THURSDAY (the 24th), leading into another weekend of quality shows on the live circuit. On FRIDAY (the 25th) Kris Hansen's VIKING JESUS open for MARK CUTLER & MEN OF GREAT COURAGE at the Apartment (401.228.7222), while the JAMES MONTGOMERY BAND performs two sets at Chan's in Woonsocket (401.765.1900). On SATURDAY (the 26th), Bristol's ALLYSEN CALLERY and ORION RIGEL-DOMISSE open for Bebe Requin at Firehouse 13 ($8, 401.270.1801); and on SUNDAY (the 27th), pack the earplugs and get to AS220 for RI's best live band — LOLITA BLACK — headlining with kindred eardrum-splitters SONGS and BRAIN SHIVERS; hands-down the best $6 you'll spend all weekend, call 401.831.9327. On MONDAY (the 28th), DJ NOOK continues his residency at Local 121's Taproom (401.274.2121). On TUESDAY (the 29th), the Whiskey Republic continues its weekly Unplugged series (call 401.588.5158 for this week's lineup), and Tuesday marks a big day for local hip-hop as FALSIDE THE BEATSMITH and JUAN DEUCE release their debut collabo EP, The Mechanics — this is not to be slept on, visit iTunes or your local wax purveyor and scoop it up ASAP. Midweek blahs/post-holiday hangover be damned: WBRU has you covered with NYC duo CULTS playing the Met (401.729.1005) on Tuesday, followed by the 42nd (!!) Birthday Bash at Lupo's on WEDNESDAY (the 30th) with MATT & KIM, YOUNG THE GIANT, and THE NAKED & FAMOUS, call 401.331.5876 for ticket availability.
