Monstrous sounds

Zounds, Lolita Black, and more!
By PROVIDENCE PHOENIX MUSIC STAFF  |  October 11, 2011

Last call for DEER TICK playing the second night of their Divine Providence release party on THURSDAY (the 13th) at the Met (check back here next week for a full DT feature); call 401.729.1005 for ticket availability. AS220 is the place to be on FRIDAY (the 14th) when UK punk legends ZOUNDS pay a visit along with San Fran's GRASS WIDOW, plus locals NEON BITCHES and LOLITA BLACK (arguably the best live band in RI right now), call 401.831.9327. For our roots/blues/folk friends, catch THE BENEDICTIONS headlining an all-ages freebie at the Apartment (401.228.7222) with guests VUDU BEVY and THE DENVER BOOT. And at Dusk (a great little spot behind da Hill 401.714.0444), look up Australian singer/songwriter/harmonica maestro HARPER & THE MIDWEST KIND. Start your SATURDAY (the 15th) with TIG & BEAN, MARK CUTLER, and plenty more performing at the RI Seafood Festival at India Point Park starting around noontime, and no cover! Also on Saturday, the Colonel presents his 3RD ANNUAL SUPER DOOPER GUITAR PARTY at the German Club in Pawtucket (401.726.9873), with plenty of axes and gear on display, along with live sets from THE SICK-A-BILLYS, THE THROTTLES, Cutler, and many more, starting at 5 pm. Then shoot over to the News Café (401.728.6475) and catch THE CAN'T NOTS opening for THEN AND NOW. RUSTIC OVERTONES and THE CYBORG TRIO play the Spot Underground (401.383.7133); and a loaded, something-for-everyone lineup at Lupo's (401.272.5876) features expert wordsmith CHACHI CARVALHO plus SHARKS COME CRUISIN', NORTHERN LANDS, THE BROTHER KITE, and LAST ONE OUT; doors at 5 pm and the $10 cover supports the RI Music Hall of Fame (check out ripopmusic.org). On SUNDAY (the 16th), MARK CUTLER & FRIENDS lead this week's installment of the RI Legends Jam at the Met (4 pm, free); and head back there on TUESDAY (the 18th) and catch Last One Out opening for Viva Brother; the 'BRU-sponsored show is only $10 at the door.
