Real good times

Off the Couch
By PROVIDENCE PHOENIX MUSIC STAFF  |  October 6, 2010

A nice variety on FRIDAY (the 8th) features former Kilgore/current Revival Preachers growler JAY BERNDT dropping a new solo disc (Sad Bastard Songs) at the German Hall in Pawtucket with guests JOE FLETCHER and CHRIS FULLERTON; only $5 at the door, call 401.726.9873. And speaking of Mr. Fletcher, his WRONG REASONS outfit is rallying up some last-minute dough to cover expenses for their new album White Lighter (which features a lengthy all-star cast in the mix), click kickstarter.com/projects/wrongreasons/white-lighter-the-finishing-touches and kick in a coupla bucks. Friday rocks on with KANERKO (bassist Kevin Marz reports the band is working on new tunes) with PISTOL SHOT GYPSY, FROZEN, and BIRCH HILL DAM at Firehouse 13 (18+, $10 cover, call 401.270.1801), while downtown at Club Hell (401.709.3923) it's MURPHY'S LAW, REASON TO FIGHT, EDDIE & THE LOUVERS, and STRENGTH FOR A REASON, and at AS220 check out VUDU BEVY, BIXIT, DUSTY FRAMES, and the lovely ANNE'S CORDIAL (their cover of "Under the Milky Way" is worth the $6 door charge).

Get back to Empire Street on SATURDAY (the 9th) for I, DESTROYER, HELLBASTARD, and more; call 401.831.9327 for info on both shows. The Met (401.729.1005) hosts DON'T BLAME JACK and a rare appearance by THE SCHEMERS ($10 cover charge), and of course the big ZOX reunion goes down at Lupo's (their only show of the year), call 401.331.5876 for ticket availability as this one will probably sell out by showtime.

Head to India Point Park on Columbus Day MONDAY (the 13th) for the PROVIDENCE HONK FEST (providencehonkfest.org), featuring a ton of marching street-sweepers, including locals WHAT CHEER? BRIGADE and EXTRAORDINARY RENDITION BAND; the PRONK parade begins at 3 pm). NYC's WE ARE SCIENTISTS play Jerky's (401.621.2244) on TUESDAY (the 12th) with guests REWARDS and PVD trio MAKEUPBREAKUP, while hometown heroes THE BODY join a noisy lineup at Machines With Magnets (401.475.2655) that includes KINTAAN, THRONES, and CHRISTIAN MISTRESS (18+, $10 cover). And a heads up for two hot shows next THURSDAY (the 14th), when TIP THE VAN, SENIOR DISCOUNT, and BRUNT OF IT support BIG D & THE KIDS TABLE at Jerky's (show starts @ 7:30 pm), while Bucket reps BIG RUSH and CHACHI play a hometown show at the Met (9 pm, $10).
