ROMEN ROK CELEBRATES AT FIREHOUSE 13

Punk/hardcore heads will convene at Club Hell (401.709.3923) for an all-ages tilt featuring Rhythmafia, EDDIE & THE LOUVERS, THE PARAPLEGICS, and GUT BUCKET on FRIDAY (the 28th). Creeping around Aquidneck? Be sure to stop by Billy Goode’s for a freebie with BLIZZARD OF ‘78 and Boston’s JENNY DEE & THE DELINQUENTS, call 401.848.5013 for details. Respected wordsmith ROMEN ROK will host an all-ages album release party on SATURDAY (the 29th), with plenty of special guests from the Pro Town Records conglomerate and CHACHI CARVALHO hosting. Rok’s insanely entertaining live set is a must-see event. Doors at 8 pm with an $8 cover. A solid show of note at AS220 (401831.9327) on Saturday features MAHI MAHI, VOLCANO KINGS, HERRA TERRA, and A TROOP OF ECHOES (who will release their debut full-length, Days in Automation; see last week’s column for details). The Ocean Mist in Matunuck is the place to be SUNDAY (the 30th), with GARY GUITAR & THE GRINDERS warming up the afternoon crowd, followed by JOHN CAFFERTY & THE BEAVER BROWN BAND taking over after sundown; call 401.782.3740 for details on both shows. Anyone else hop-ping a flight to Chicago for the HUM reunion show on Memorial Day MONDAY (the 31st)?

Here’s an early reminder for our big BEST MUSIC POLL/RHODE ISLAND MUSIC AWARDS SHOW, going down at Lupo’s on Wednesday, June 9. No cover, free local eats, spe-cial guest award presenters, and a handful of Rhody’s best live acts melting your face while slugging down the ‘Gansett tallboys. Doors at 6 pm — and did we mention this mofo is free?! Get there.
