CANVASMAN (March 24 @ 7 pm at Nickelodeon) — This anticipated debut — the first-ever MJFF premiere of a full-length film by a local director (Gary Robinov) — is a documentary about Rob Elowitch, a senior citizen who lives his life with two very different canvases: the first as an art dealer and owner of the local Barridoff Galleries; the second as the professional wrestler Robbie Ellis. Both director and subject will be in attendance.
THE DEBT (March 22 @ 5 pm at Nickelodeon; March 23 @ 1:30 pm at Maine Historical Society) — Assaf Bernstein's thriller concerns two former Mossad agents who believe the purported, perhaps fictitious war criminal known as "the Surgeon of Birkenau" escaped from a prison they were stationed at. An English-language remake of this film, directed by John Madden (Shakespeare in Love), is due out this year.
HAG (March 25 @ 2 pm at Nicklodeon) — A mockumentary about Jews in Hollywood by and about Yisrael Lifshutz, a producer and star of Darren Aronofsky's breakthrough debut, Pi.
