Basic Instinct 2
Silly fun for fans of the original

It’s been 14 years since Sharon Stone uncrossed her legs in
. Getting the sequel delivered has meant lawsuits and much dithering over who will direct and co-star. The good news is that it’s just what you’d hope for if the original gave you a rise. Stone’s in fine form as author Catherine Tramell, who after getting off at 110 mph and crashing into the Thames is suspected of murdering a British football star. Her shrink, Michael Glass (David Morrissey), is the tormented snare du jour as the bodies and the voyeuristic fuck vignettes pile up. “The smell of her pussy makes you dizzy” is how Inspector Roy Washburn (David Thewlis) puts it. Silly, shock-pandering lines like that nearly sink the film to
level. Nonetheless, from kitsch to sex kitten, Stone owns the film, and director Michael Caton-Jones (
) maintains a grave, seductive mood, even through the convoluted climax.
Politics as usual?
Although your superior correspondents don’t know how many people were sucked in by WBRU’s April Fools’ Day joke, the biggest dupes had to be the newsies at NBC-10.
After weeks of tormenting audiences with gems like Failure To Launch and The Shaggy Dog , Hollywood seems ready to shake off the Oscar doldrums and unveil its spring collection.
Politics as usual?
Conspiracy, corruption, catastrophe — politics and world events sure can be exciting. Even the mainstream news is taking an interest.

Review: Is Anybody There?
This seems to be the year for nostalgia films. Here we have relative newcomer John Crowley directing an English working-class yarn from Peter Harness's autobiographical script.
Good night, Mr. White
Phillipe and Jorge were mightily saddened last week when we learned of the death of longtime friend, confidante, and jokester Doug White right after our deadline.
The Camelot mythography lives on in writer/director Emilio Estevez’s earnest bid for significance, a cliché’d collage portrait of LA’s Ambassador Hotel on June 4, 1968. Watch the trailer for Bobby (QuickTime)
