Will Greta Gerwig ever be in another film in which she doesn't wear ugly underwear? Will there ever be a movie about heartbroken women where they don't find consolation in food? If director/writer Daryl Wein and co-write Zoe Lister Jones's wretched romantic comedy is any indication, don't hold your breath. Gerwig, rapidly becoming the go-to actor for roles involving low self-esteem, plays Lola, who is the not-funny version of Kristen Wiig's character in Bridesmaids. She's about to turn 30, and her drippy fiancé Luke (Joel Kinnaman) has dumped her. Meanwhile, she's abandoned her PhD dissertation on "silence in 19th century French literature." Good decision, that. When her relationships with her best friends get sticky, and even the Häagen-Dazs doesn't help, Lola bottoms out with booze. That's when Gerwig's performance gets genuinely funny and touching, but otherwise skip this misery and check her out in Damsels in Distress.
