This selection of 10 short films from around the world runs the gamut of genres, from a brisk actioner to a political documentary to playful horror. Comparing the films is inevitable, and that's precisely what the curators want, urging viewers to vote on a card handed out at screenings. Unfortunately, along with the many styles here, there is a sharp contrast in quality. The weightier efforts fall by the wayside: Kárpáti György Mór's "The Forest" is almost too surreal for its own good, and "Mak," Géraldine Zosso's tale of an unprepared mother deciding what to do with her newborn, has been told better. The jaunty comedic affairs prove to be the standouts: Christopher Stollery's "Dik" and Neil LaBute's "Sexting" both pack the necessary punch to make the package worthwhile.
