Kaja (Agnes Kittelsen) is anything but happy, since her husband (Joachim Rafaelsen) is cold and possibly gay, and her sullen son sides with dad. But hope arrives when a sophisticated Danish couple, Elisabeth (Maibritt Saerens) and Sigve (Henrik Rafaelsen), rent next door in their snowbound Norwegian town. Instead, there's more unhappiness from the newcomers, followed by an awkward stab at bliss, as two of the dissatisfied have a stormy affair. First-time filmmaker Anne Sewitsky finds a compassionate way to tell a familiar tale of adultery, and she's helped immeasurably by a first-rate acting ensemble, especially the two superlative actresses, whom you could imagine cast in films of the late Ingmar Bergman.
