Best Singer/Songwriter in Providence

Hannah Devine

Immensely talented teenager Hannah Devine continues to garner accolades on the local front, having won the 2008 Rhode Island Idol contest (at age 17) and, in her first year as a BMP nominee, dominated the competition. The Cranston East alum is blessed with a lullaby falsetto and impressive six-string skills, honed while attending the Girls Rock! Camp in Portland, Oregon. Devine's love for jazz is highly evident on originals such as "Have I Been Too Nice," which could have been beamed in from a 1940s speakeasy. And Devine's surprisingly barbed lyrics are wise beyond her years as well; on "Don't," she is ruthless to her mate, with lines like "I don't want to use you, but you work so well," and a stinging hook of "I love you. But I don't." Devine's dual citizenship will allow her to spend the summer in Dublin and further her unique Celtic-laced jazz stylings. In the meantime, join Hannah and dad Jimmy Devine for the Traditional Irish Sessions every Saturday afternoon at AS220.
