NAME: Mike Sears.
DISTINCTION: The longtime Providence barman’s new restaurant, Loie Fuller on Westminster Street in Providence’s Armory District, fairly exudes duende.
RESIDES: Providence.
WHAT’S THE MEANING OF THE NAME OF YOUR NEW RESTAURANT? Loie Fuller was a dancer at the turn of the century that inspired a lot of the nouveau artists of the time.
WHY THE FRENCH-INSPIRED MENU? We had decided against calamari.
HAVE YOU BEEN TO FRANCE? Where’s France?
HOW DID YOU GET INTO THE NIGHTLIFE BUSINESS? The Hot Club, or college?
DO YOU KNOW HOW TO COOK? When I’m hungry.
WHAT DO YOU MOST LOVE ABOUT PROVIDENCE? One Up, Leo’s, Blue Point, Met Café — oh, but they’re all closed.
WHAT DO YOU MOST HATE ABOUT PROVIDENCE? That I can’t hail a cab in the city.
HOW REVEALING IS MIKE? He declines to identify his age and the celebrity with whom he’d most like to sleep.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE CANDY BAR? I've got lots of favorites, depending on my mood.
WHAT'S THE LAST BOOK YOU’VE READ? I usually start them, but don’t finish.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE RESTAURANT (OTHER THAN YOUR OWN)? Joe Marzilli’s Old Canteen on Federal Hill.
