Rock and roll on the cuff courtesy of MARK CUTLER & FRIENDS THURSDAY (the 29th) at Nick-a-Nee’s (401.861.7290) in the Jewelry District, or head south to the historic Greenwich Hotel with THE THROTTLES, a new duo featuring Greg Burgess and former Amazing Crowns bassman Jack Hanlon (21+ and never a cover, call 401.884.4200). Head further south on FRIDAY (the 30th) for a pair of All Hallow’s Eve gigs; catch ROZ RASKIN & THE RICE CAKES with FORMAL ACTION at the Wheelhouse (401.284.0246) in Narragansett, or local jam band icons FOXTROT ZULU at the Ocean Mist (401.782.3740) in Matunuck. We can put dudes on the moon and discover water on Mars but still can’t produce a snack-size Whatchamacallit? Weak. But at least Halloween falls on a weekend, and SATURDAY (the 31st) offers some entertaining ways to work off the candy, including garage rock thrashers CLIFFS AND BANGERS at Billy Goode’s (401.848.5013) in Newport, with a special treat — hometowners THE DIEPODS (who recently decimated my eardrums at the Blackstone) performing an all-Zeppelin set. Empire Street should be popping with eye candy on Saturday; join expert beat-conductor JOE BEATS spinning between sets at the CASPIAN show at AS220 (401.831.9327) with fellow instrumentalists HADOKEN, BEWARE OF SAFETY, and locals TROOP OF ECHOES, eying a spring ‘10 full-length release. On SUNDAY (the 1st), THE MISFITS headline a great bill with SASQUATCH & THE SICK-A-BILLYS, ACEROSE, and Warwick’s LEMON LIME TENNIS SHOES at Lupo’s (401.331.5876). On WEDNESDAY (the 4th), Union (next to Providence Eagle downtown) presents audio mayhem courtesy of Providence locals DENIMVENOM and THE NETWORK along with New York’s TOURNAMENT, while local experimental/electronic maestro SHAWN GREENLEE (aka Pleasurehorse, ex-Landed) throws down at AS220 with special guests ($6 cover at the door).
