Witless Protection

Early scenes in this Larry the Cable Guy vee-hickle peg the comic as a decent dolt who cuts to the quick of a problem with common sense. Then comes the puke-like deluge of lame bodily-function jokes, chases set to hillbilly music, copious critters, a pause to Support Our Troops, flabby-Larry nudity, and puke. It begins with deputy sheriff Larry suspecting that FBI agents escorting a blonde witness (Ivana Milicevic) to a trial in Chicago ain’t kosher. He “rescues” her and heads for Chi-town, feds in pursuit. Along the way, he slams such targets as airport security and fancy gadgets (“I’m gonna shove that BlackBerry up where it’s gonna be a brownberry”). Peter Stormare and Joe Mantegna share over-the-top honors; Eric Roberts is surprisingly restrained. It’s sad to watch Yaphet Kotto, as the shady fed, clothesline the stereotypical Muslim motel owner who’s already been threatened by Larry with a trip to Gitmo.
