DARFUR NOW: Theodore Braun’s documentary takes a positive, hopeful approach.
Theodore Braun’s probing documentary about the genocide crisis in Darfur takes a hopeful approach, promoting activism by extolling the efforts of six individuals at differing locations along the spectrum. Actor Don Cheadle gets fellow

’s star George Clooney into the mix; the prosecutor of the International Criminal Court in the Hague and a female rebel soldier also fight for justice in the region. Braun neatly pieces together the origins of the grim situation, from the 1989 military coup to the alleged employment of the Janjaweed (nomadic Arab militias) by the government to drive farmers from their land as the Sudanese officials, pockets full from supplying China with 60 percent of its oil, sit by and watch. Rebels with a cause
Unlike the war in Iraq, or the BU-biolab controversy, or immigrant rights, the fight to end genocide in Darfur — in which more than 300,000 have died, and 3.5 million are suffering violence and starvation — has brought out a cohesive movement of student activists.
Darfur: The only hope
The genocide in Darfur continues.
Genocide today
It was a spooky image. Two women, who look like grandmothers and are identified as Russian Communists, standing in front of the American embassy in Moscow waving pictures of Slobodan Milosevic.
Criminalizing the war
Lieutenant Ehren Watada seems to know his chances are slim.
Prescriptions for pot
Smoking a joint can be a better and more effective way of easing chronic pain than the use of prescription narcotics such as OxyContin and morphine.
Justice is blind
David S. Bernstein’s willingness to ignore the truth in order to advance his own agenda is utterly disgraceful.
History and truth
It has been 92 years and there continues to be a reluctance (perhaps too gentle a word) to acknowledge that Turkey systematically killed a million and a half Armenians.
Sisters In Law
Genocide, famine, injustice — that’s what we’ve come to expect from documentaries about Africa.

Hell on earth
How does the Devil get his work done? With the greatest of ease, seems to be the answer.
Blue (-Eyed) Devils?
Once the sensational Duke University rape case — with its irresistible brew of race, class, and sex — triggered the predictable media circus, an equally predictable chorus of earnest-sounding criticism began to roll in.

Dan Lindsay and T. J. Martin's Oscar-winning documentary about an underequipped high-school football team competing against big-time programs across Tennessee offers a potent contemplation on race and opportunity.

Regrettably, this team loses a lot of Seuss's quirkiness, though not the message about corporate greed and slash-and-burn imperialism.
