Global warming made boring

THE ELEVENTH HOUR: Leo instead of Gore, but still a bit of a bore.
Remember the “myth” of global warming? Used to be, no one took it seriously. Then along comes a disaster like Katrina to wash away years of disbelief. Kind of like the “myth” of Al Gore. (No, not that whole Internet thing.) Time was, he was “boring.” (Right around the time he “lost” the election.) Then he went and made a hit movie –– about global warming, no less! People listened to him. (He is a celebrity now, after all.) Some were even inspired to act. Take his Oscar co-presenter, Leonardo DiCaprio: he was moved to co-write, narrate, and produce this environmental documentary from Nadia Conners and Leila Conners Petersen, only with 54 talking heads (Stephen Hawking, Mikhail Gorbachev, etc.) predicting DOOM! to Gore’s 1. On TV at half the length, this might work, but even with Vicarious a draw for the girls, the inconvenient truth is they’ll be just as bored as we once were with Gore.

Inconvenient questions
Even those who hate him will admit that Al Gore is a man with the facts at his fingertips, so I was surprised when he fumbled my first question.

Break like the wind
I felt like a voyeur. There was Fred Hardy of New Sharon crawling into bed with — gawd, I can’t look! — Al Gore.
Wet, hot American summer
Also, Al Gore's graphic disaster movie, An Inconvenient Truth. Plus, watch animation showing the effects of global warming, and listen to an interview with Al Gore.
Truth and consequences
For a film consisting mostly of a middle-aged guy pointing to charts and lecturing about complex, controversial, and world-challenging ideas, An Inconvenient Truth makes for a more entertaining thriller than The Da Vinci Code .

Global warming
The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change is one of those broad-based, high-minded, outfits that drive the Bush White House crazy.

President Obama's push for a green revolution has inevitably drawn comparisons to President Kennedy's famous call, 48 years ago, for a moon landing.

REVIEW: THIS MEANS WAR
| February 16, 2012
What promises to be a modern Jules and Jim (until you realize it's directed by a 43-year-old who calls himself "McG") quickly devolves into Spy vs. Spy territory, only with incompetently staged and edited action and little of that ol' Mad magazine zing.
REVIEW: THE VIRAL FACTOR
| January 17, 2012
Made for a modest budget of $17 million — and feeling like it (who needs convincing explosions in an action movie?), Dante Lam's latest still gets the job done from a run-and-gun standpoint.

Many a teleplay for The Twilight Zone threatened atomic Armageddon, and though Frontier(s) director Xavier Gens nukes New York in the opening shots of his latest thriller, he finds more inspiration in the horrors of human nature as seen in the old TV show's episode "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street."

Impossible Missions Force agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) returns to the screen in dramatic fashion as new teammate Jane (Paula Patton) and the returning Benji (Simon Pegg) break him out of a Russian prison.
