Hot Rod
Barely worth an illegal download

Hot Rod

Will Ferrell as inept stuntman Rod Kimble, the son of Evel Knievel’s test-rider, might not have been the most inspired idea, but you can bet it would have been funny,
Jackass
with a plot. When Ferrell stepped aside, Andy Samberg and his
SNL
Digital Shorts cohort (co-star Jorma Taccone and director Akiva Schaffer) stepped in to recapture some of that “Lazy Sunday” magic that made Samberg an Internet sensation. The results are barely worth an illegal download. Desperate for the respect of his prick of a stepfather, Frank (Ian McShane), Rod routinely subjects himself to beatings at the old man’s hands. When Frank requires a heart transplant he can’t afford, Rod vows to raise $50,000 by jumping 15 buses on his moped, thus keeping Frank alive long enough to “beat him to death.” Samberg’s self-abuse is fitfully funny, but he’s too damned nice. Ferrell’s underlying anger might’ve beaten an audience into hysterics — instead, we’re only being abused.

WFNX Disorientation 2008
A boisterous, oddly diverse crowd of young and old, nerd and chic, shit-faced and sober alike braved the rain at Bank of America Pavilion Saturday night for WFNX Disorientation.

Review: I Love You, Man
I Love You, Man starts up where He's Just Not into You left off, with some poor emasculated bastard being sacrificed to some clinging, needy, borderline psychotic bitch at the altar.
Please shut up!
How can we miss you if you won’t go away?

REVIEW: THIS MEANS WAR
| February 16, 2012
What promises to be a modern Jules and Jim (until you realize it's directed by a 43-year-old who calls himself "McG") quickly devolves into Spy vs. Spy territory, only with incompetently staged and edited action and little of that ol' Mad magazine zing.
REVIEW: THE VIRAL FACTOR
| January 17, 2012
Made for a modest budget of $17 million — and feeling like it (who needs convincing explosions in an action movie?), Dante Lam's latest still gets the job done from a run-and-gun standpoint.

Too soon? For Stephen Daldry's 9/11 drama, the right time is "never."
REVIEW: THE DIVIDE
| January 10, 2012
Many a teleplay for The Twilight Zone threatened atomic Armageddon, and though Frontier(s) director Xavier Gens nukes New York in the opening shots of his latest thriller, he finds more inspiration in the horrors of human nature as seen in the old TV show's episode "The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street."
REVIEW: MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL
| December 20, 2011
Impossible Missions Force agent Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) returns to the screen in dramatic fashion as new teammate Jane (Paula Patton) and the returning Benji (Simon Pegg) break him out of a Russian prison.
