48th Annual Washington County Fair

Route 112, West Kingston, RI   (view map)

Even city slickers get excited about going rural when the Washington County Fair rolls around each year. There’s just something attractive about roaming around and either watching or participating in the array of singular events. There’s a watermelon seed spitting contest (yes, there’s a trophy), egg tosses, a swine obstacle course, a know-your-animal contest, and the cherished dung-throwing championship (which city slickers just may have an advantage in). Of course, the agricultural achievements are what buoy the 48th annual event. All sorts of animals (sheep, pigs, goats) are up for prizes, and the participants are proud of their flowers, plants, and produce achievements. The 4-H action, the country music artists (including Cole Swindell, David Nail, and Doug Stone), the midway, and the bounty of summertime food items (can you smell the corndogs?) round things out. Get your boots on and head to Route 112, Richmond, through the 17th | $10, free under 11, parking is free |
