Queens of the Stone Age

220 Weybosset St, Providence, RI   (view map)

If misery loves company then it’s no wonder that ...Like Clockwork, the sixth album from Queens of the Stone Age, was the disc that launched the Palm Desert quintet into the rock and roll stratosphere. The Clockwork soundtrack often reflects deep depression following a near-death experience during what should have been a routine knee procedure for charismatic singer/guitarist Josh Homme (aka Ginger El-vis). “Shock me awake/Tear me apart,” Homme howls on the gloomy yet gorgeous slow burner “I Appear Missing”; he wants God to come and take him home on “The Vampyre of Time and Memory.” But this is Queens and we all know you can’t keep a good Homme down; there is plenty of hip-shaking and maximum rocking on “I Sat By the Ocean,” “If I Had a Tail,” and the monstrous “My God Is the Sun.” A QOTSA show is a sight to behold (the visuals on this tour are insane). The rock show of the year is at the Providence Performing Arts Center, 220 Weybosset St. Brody Dalle (of Distillers fame) opens at 7:30 pm | $39.50-$69.50 | 401.421.ARTS | ppacri.org
