Fifth Annual Providence Children's Film Festival

20 North Main St, Providence, RI   (view map)

The Fifth Annual Providence Children’s Film Festival will cover the entire spectrum of the wonder of youth. There are 17 features, which will charm you (the French animated film Ernest and Celestine), intrigue you (in The Zigzag Kid, featuring Isabella Rossellini, “an aspiring adolescent detective teams up with a master burglar and finds out more than be bargained for about the mysterious past of his mother — and about himself”), and move you (local filmmaker Mitty Mirrer’s Gold Star Children, a documentary that looks at American children “who have lost a parent to war and how they learn to heal alongside the now-adult child survivors of the Vietnam War”). There will be plenty to absorb in the engaging “Your Shorts Are Showin’ ” collections. And the Youth Filmmaker Show will spotlight works by the next generation of visual storytellers, including local kids (ages 6-14) who can participate in workshops on February 8 and 9. Screenings are at the Cable Car Cinema (204 South Main St), the Metcalf Auditorium at the RISD Museum’s Chace Center (20 North Main St), and the RISD Auditorium (17 Canal Walkway), today through the 16th and on the 22nd and 23rd | Most screenings are $8 adults and $6 for kids — and some are free! | Details on all the events are @
