The 9th Annual 24-Hour Play Festival

215 Columbia St, Wakefield, RI   (view map)

Once a year the members of the Contemporary Theatre Company put themselves under self-imposed creative pressure. They arrive at a chosen spot — in this case, the South Kingstown High School Auditorium, 215 Columbia Street, Wakefield — to write, rehearse, and stage six short plays in less than a day’s time. Yep, the 9th Annual 24-Hour Play Festival is one of those deals that pulls a rabbit out of a hat. Let them provide the breakdown: “The playwrights begin the process at midnight, writing through the night until the actors and directors arrive in the morning and begin casting and rehearsing the plays. Photos, videos, and stories are uploaded to the company’s website and Facebook page throughout the day, allowing the audience to keep up with the process as it unfolds.” You can see what they came up with at 8 pm | $12 | 401.218.0282 | contemporary
