Pegi Young & the Survivors + Mark Cutler & the Men of Great Courage
Pegi Young started working as a musician in her 20s, but left that path to raise a family after she married Neil Young. She got back on the road with Neil in 2000, and issued her debut disc six years ago. “Little by little, my confidence built up,” Pegi recently said. “I was pretty shy about going out there, especially putting my songs out there, because it exposes you a little bit more. Once I got started, though, well I haven’t stopped yet.” And she knows most people refer to her as “Neil Young’s wife.” “I can’t separate myself from my husband of 35 years,” she said. “I can’t do that. Obviously, I had access to these great musicians that I’ve met over the years, from walking through this life together. I had a studio and a record label. The resources clearly are there. And I’m not a young up-and-comer. I’m more than a middle-aged woman, so getting these opportunities are huge for me.” Pegi and her band, the Survivors, will be at the Speakeasy at Local 121, 121 Washington St, Providence. Here’s hoping she does her take on Crazy Horse’s “I Don’t Want To Talk About It,” from her most recent disc, Bracing for Impact. Mark Cutler & Men of Great Courage open at 9:30 pm | $10 advance | 401.274.2121 | local121.com
