Janet Beveridge Bean and Catherine Irwin formed Freakwater in 1989, and they did alt-country right, running the emotional and stylistic gamut with a whole lotta heart. Bean is also a member of eleventh dream day and the Horse’s Ha, Irwin has a recent solo record, and their tourmates Dave Gray and Jim Elkington keep busy with the Reigning Sound, Kelly Hogan, and Laetitia Sadler. That’s some high-quality musicmaking! Bean says they’ll be celebrating the 20th anniversary of the release of Feels Like the Third Time. “We will be playing it in its entirely along with other favorites. We have found a lot of our fans were having babies ’round the time the record came out and those babies were forced to listen to Freakwater more than any baby should. It turns out those babies, now the record-buying public, have some sort of DNA thing going where they gotta hear the Freakwater.
