Passion Pit + the Joy Formidable + Ra Ra Riot + the Rice Cakes
Forty-three years ago, WBRU was a progressive rock station, and the likes of Frank Zappa, the Firesign Theatre, and Fairport Convention were in heavy rotation. These days WBRU is a modern rock station, and they fill the airwaves with the likes of fun., Florence & the Machine, and Foster the People. But for all of those 43 years, ’BRU has been a vital part of the local music scene and the first preset on our car radio (from Ford Pinto to Renault Encore to Kia Spectra and a few other not-so-long-running rides). Tonight, 95.5 FM celebrates with its 43rd Birthday Bash and, after all these years, they have a bit of clout: the headliners are Passion Pit, who will be playing a little dump called Madison Square Garden in February. Sharing the bill is the Joy Formidable (they excel at overwhelmingly wonderful sonic squalls), Ra Ra Riot, and the Rice Cakes. The all-ages bash is at Lupo’s Heartbreak Hotel, 79 Washington St, Providence, at 7 pm | $25 advance, $30 day of show, $35 reserved | 401.331.5876 | lupos.com | wbru.com
