A Christmas Carol, by Charles Dickens, adapted by Adrian Hall and Richard Cumming

201 Washington St, Providence, RI   (view map)

Elf The Musical kicked the holiday season off last week, and now Trinity Rep is launching its earliest-ever staging of A Christmas Carol. But after the bruising electioneering, we need all the cheer we can get. This year’s take on Adrian Hall and Richard Cumming’s adaptation of the Dickens classic stars Timothy Crowe as Scrooge and is helmed by associate artistic director Tyler Dobrowsky. And Eugene Lee will be the designer, working his first Carol in more than 20 years. Dobrowsky says, “My childhood experience with this show [the first professional production he attended] has really informed how I am approaching staging the play. I want to create a show that anyone seeing live theater for the first time — or the 31st time — would really, really love. For me, that means magic, wonder, humor and, of course, some cool ghosts and surprises.” The show will be staged 44 times through December 29 at 201 Washington St, Providence | $15-$70 (previews Nov 10- 18 $15-$36) | 401.351.42442 |
