Works by d'Ann de Simone and Monique Rolle Johnson
Artists dig deep. Sometimes the most fundamental element can provide profound inspiration. That’s certainly the case with d’Ann de Simone. The RISD/Brown/UMass grad, now in the art department at Michigan State University, has a new exhibit at Rhode Island College’s Bannister Gallery, 600 Mount Pleasant Ave, Providence. Her statement: “My connection to water goes back to my childhood in Rhode Island, virtually spending every day of the summer at the beach. Now, both the ocean of my past and the ocean of the present, the Great Lakes, play a primary role in my life and work. I chose this environment as the inspiration for my images because it is a vast, uncontrollable landscape against which the insignificance of the individual is amplified.” Now that’s digging deep. The exhibit runs through the 24th (Tuesday-Friday 12-8 pm) | 401.456.9765 | www.ric.edu/bannister
