Dr. John & the Lower 911 & the Blind Boys of Alabama
In 1938 and ’39, the legendary producer, talent scout, and civil rights activist John Hammond presented two concerts at Carnegie Hall titled “From Spirituals to Swing,” to showcase African American artists for an integrated audience. Those landmark shows are the inspiration for the pairing of Dr. John and the Blind Boys of Alabama on the “Spirituals to Funk” tour. The good Doctor appeared on the Blind Boys’ Down In New Orleans CD, and they’ll return the favor on his forthcoming disc celebrating the 100th birthday of Louis Armstrong. Jazz, blues, and gospel will be part of the joyful noise when they share the stage at the Park Theatre, 848 Park Ave, Cranston, at 7:30 pm | $35-$55 | 401.467.7275 | park theatreri.com
