“I-95: A Photographic Excavation,”

25 Dorrance St, Providence, RI   (view map)

What’s your favorite new exit on the reconfigured/rerouted/reconstructed intersection of I-95 and I-195? Ours is Exit 20 to Point Street — a sweet, sleek ramp (though there’s that clumsy merge/sharp right before the turn onto Point Street). The $610 million Iway project was a massive undertaking. To get a stunning perspective on what took place when old roads were destroyed and new highways emerged, go to the Gallery at City Hall, 25 Dorrance St, Providence, and take in “I-195: A Photographic Excavation,” with works by Bill Benson, Paul Clancy, Warren Eve, David Gong, Erik Gould and Paul Shelasky. “We photographed the deconstruction of the old I-195 highway and ramps in an artistic and documentary way,” notes Shelasky, who coordinated the exhibit. “This was done to create a record of the past as well as to show the changing landscape of Providence.” The shifting cityscapes are on view Monday through Friday from 8:30 am to 4 pm through August 24 | 401.421.7740 | providenceri.com/ArtCultureTourism/gallery-at-city-hall
