Whoarfrost + Kirsten Opstad + Rich Ferri + Big Sky Sun Machine
An intriguing night is on tap at AS220 (yeah, we know, that phrase applies to the goings-on at 115 Empire almost every night). Whoarfrost’s list of influences includes John Coltrane, Jimi Hendrix, J Dilla, Ornette Coleman, and Nirvana; their sonic confluence has been described as a “controlled landslide”; they call it “hyperactive free rock.” Kirsten Opstad is a musician/improviser who tags her stark, engaging tracks on her Bandcamp page as “antifolk” and “twee.” Rich Ferri, an accomplished indie folkster from Coventry, has a gorgeous new album titled The Last One Out of This Town (sample it at Bandcamp). And Big Sky Sun Machine are as sprawling and ambitious as their name; they do noisy, they do quiet, and color the spaces between. Open your ears at 9 pm | $6 | 401.831.9327 | as220.org
