Brain Storm

9 Duncan Ave, Providence, RI   (view map)

That wiseguy René Descartes secured his place on philosophy’s Mount Rushmore when he stated, “I think, therefore I am.” The ever-thinking folks at Everett are debuting Brain Storm, a new theater piece that they say “tells the tale of the brain and how it makes us human.” The multimedia work, “using current neuroscience research and personal narrative as fuel,” incorporates dance (with a nod to Gene Kelly), drama, data, neuroplasticity, hip-hop, and visuals to stimulate your grey matter (there are some laughs, too). And it offers a glimpse of the future: “The imminent neurological revolution, which includes the ability to map the spectrum of human emotions, beliefs, and tendencies.“ The piece has been in development for two years, in conjunction with brain scientists, hospitals, charitable foundations, the Rhode Island State Councils on the Arts and for the Humanities, and many more enlightened groups. Brain Storm will be staged on Friday and Saturday at 8 pm and on Sunday at 3 pm through the 29th | $25 (pay what you can on the 15th) | 401.831.9479 |
