4-9 pm | Tom Tom Sunday: Celebrating the Big Beat of Tom Ardolino
When Tom Ardolino, longtime drummer of NRBQ, died a few weeks ago, Jim Macnie noted on his Facebook wall that he was a traps master “determined to bring pleasure to every effing gig and utterly dedicated to the profundity of swing in all its variations.” Ardolino made the hardest stuff look easy, and mixed agility and momentum with ease. His playing was centered on the roll part of rock ’n’ roll, and it always felt great to be pushed around by him. NRBQ played in Rhode Island innumerable times, and much of their splash has been absorbed by local musicians, especially drummers. Several of them will unite to tip the hat to Tommy at the Met, 1005 Main Street, Pawtucket. Rikki Bates, Rick Couto, Bob Giusti are all along for the ride, as are David Bottai, Vinny Pagano, Chandler Travis, Klem, Gary St. Germain, the Catbirds, the Rizztones, and several others. “Tom Tom Sunday” will take place from 4 to 9 pm | Free | 401.729.1005 | themetri.com
