20th Annual Cajun & Zydeco Mardi Gras Ball
You don’t really need to be in New Orleans to celebrate Mardi Gras. As partyers around the world realize, the Crescent City’s annual bash is merely a state of mind — it can happen anywhere. The local celebrations, especially the Cajun & Zydeco Mardi Gras Ball, always put a big pile of music in our collective lap, so it’s easy to catch the spirit. This time ’round — the 20th annual time ’round! — the exclamation comes barreling along in the form of C.J. Chenier & the Red Hot Louisiana Band, the Pine Leaf Boys, Preston Frank, Ed Poullard & the Big Daddy Zydeco Band, the Hot Tamale Brass Band, and headliners Steve Riley & the Mamou Playboys. Of course, when the Playboys take the stage at Rhodes-On-the-Pawtuxet, 60 Rhodes Place, Cranston, the swoop of their zydecajun storm will provide plenty of old-fashioned thrust. And come hungry: there will be Cajun and Creole delicacies from Russell Morin Caterers. The revelry runs from 5 pm to midnight | $35 advance, $45 door | 401.783.3926 | mardigrasri.comv
