A performance by Zimoun, a visual and sound artist
Get 80 large cardboard boxes, stack ’em five high and 16 across. Attach 80 DC motors with cotton balls dangling from strings, and behold the deep percussive wonder and visual intrigue. Or get immersed in the evocative impressions created by the interaction of 30,000 plastic bags and 16 ventilators. These are two of the captivating installations by the Swiss artist Zimoun. “I’m interested in the beauty of simplicity,“ he told yatzer.com. “I keep my works very reduced, abstract, and raw . . . The works can activate the visitors and allow them to make their own connections, associations, and discoveries on different, individual levels” (go to yatzer.com/zimoun-the-magician-of-spatial-sound-installations for the complete Q+A and videos). His work is part of the “Nostalgia Machines” exhibit at Brown University’s David Winton Bell Gallery, and he will perform at the List Art Center, Room 120, 64 College Street, Providence, at 8 pm | Free | 401.863.2932 | brown.edu/Facilities/David_Winton_Bell_Gallery/
