"Identity," a dance theater performance by Melody Ruffin-Ward
The URI Feinstein Providence Campus’ Black History Month events are examining the theme of “Identity,” which provides the title of a dance piece by Melody Ruffin Ward. “The performance represents the reconstruction of a body of choreographic ideas, and thoughts around body memory and race memory,” Ruffin Ward notes. “Each work is built around conversations old and new as they pertain to some of the notions of race and marginality. The performers are exploring this in the visual re-enactments of my memories and theirs.” The troupe features dancers from Roger Williams University (where Ruffin Ward has taught) and special guest artists. Shows are at 80 Washington Street through the 11th at 7:30 pm | Free | 401.277.5206 | uri.edu/prov/missionvision/urban arts/currentgallery.html
The piece "explores Ruffin-Ward's identity as an African-American woman," and features dancers from Roger Williams University
