“It Takes Two,“ as Marvin Gaye and Kim Weston sang. The Sweethearts’ Night Out show will prove that romantic axiom, as a trio of musical couples “present an evening of both the sweet and scary side of romance,” including their own work and well-traveled songs of love. It’s a who’s who of roots players: fiddler Darol Anger was a founding member of the David Grisman Quintet, the Turtle Island String Quartet, and the Republic of Strings; his partner, Emy Phelps, is known as “the Golden Voice of the Pacific Northwest.” Fiddler Brittany Haas was also in on the ground floor of the Republic of Strings and works with alt-grassers Crooked Still. Her husband, songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Kai Welch, has played with Bela Fleck and Abigail Washburn. And fiddler (see the throughline here?) Lissa Schenckenburger wraps traditional tunes in modern settings; her best bud, double-bassist Corey DiMario, is also in Crooked Still. Phew! We’re assuming all the players will come together for a roof-raising fiddlepalooza before the show ends. It’s a perfect night for hand-holding at the Blackstone River Theatre, 549 Broad Street, Cumberland, at 7 pm | $15 | 401.725.9272 | riverfolk.org
