First things first: The Sweetback Sisters aren’t related. But a few years ago, Emily Miller and Zara Bode bonded over some Hank Williams songs and cast their lot together in the high lonesome environs of Brooklyn. “We’re a renegade retro band that mixes up country, swing, and honky-tonk,” Bode has said. Their spirited harmonies kick up some dust on their two CDs, Chicken Ain’t Chicken (2009) and last year’s Looking For a Fight, which boasted the standouts “It Won’t Hurt When I Fall Down From This Barstool” and “Don’t Put Her Down, You Helped Put Her There.” Emily and Zara and their quartet of roof-raising compatriots have been making new friends in the UK this week and will roar back onto a Stateside stage at the Common Fence Point Community Hall, 933 Anthony Road, Portsmouth. Showtime is 8 pm, but regulars know to be there at 7 when the doors open for the “folk-tailgate party” (bring a picnic basket/BYOB) | $20 advance, $23 door | 401.683.5085 | commonfence music.org
