It's a damn shame we don't have a Lifetime Achievement Award to offer Mark Cutler, but we're damn glad our readers acknowledged him as Best Male Vocalist. Most weekends you can find Mark with the Tiny String Band or Men of Great Courage, deftly mixing his sturdy songbook with rock, blues, and country classics. "These gigs I've been doing the past few years, they feel very special to me," Mark told us last month. "And I think it's because I'm doing it for the reasons we should have been doing 'em all along. You gotta do it for love, not for some payoff." Cutler's acoustic-driven new album Red (75orLess Records) finds the six-string maestro in top form and delivering some captivating, delicate moments (we're particularly fond of "We Shall Always Remain Friends"). Long may he run.
