It was difficult enough to decide how to classify acts for this category (pitting hip-hop vs. electronica), yet the masses thumbed their collective noses at us and chose DJ Tek as the runaway winner via write-in votes — pretty damn impressive. Here’s what we know: Tek quickly made his name on WBSR (catch him every Tuesday from 9 to 10 pm at 88.1 FM) and WBRU’s 360, culminating in high-demand at Providence nightclubs, rap shows, and promotional events. And we hear he just got the call to spin at the upcoming Tracy Morgan show in Newport. Tek is indeed “doing it big” (his trademark credo) as owner of VS Jewelers in downtown Providence and founder of the rap site StreetHop.com. Hey, what else can we say? This dude was off our radar.
